From Kenmare we head South again to Glengariff. stopping at Molly Galvin's 18C. homestead. Our next stop is Glengariff to allow a visit to Garnish Island or Illnacullen. Aboat may be taken accross from Glengariff to Garnish. this is a short boat trip of 15 minutes passing Seal Island on the way.
Garnish was developed as a garden in the early 20th C. by Aannan Bryce with the help of architect and gardener Harold Peto. Specialising inrhodendren and azalias it is a riot of colour in the late Spring. Garnish Island was bequeated to the Irish people in 1953.
With Bantry Bay to the left we continue on twoards Adrigole where we leave the Ring of Beara behind and travel inland twoards the spectacular Healy Pass. The climb up to the pass through the Caha mountains on the narrow winding road, breathtaking in itaelf, is well worth the reward of the views on both sides of the pass when one gets to the top.
The journey down the other side is equally splendid with views of the Lauragh valley and the magnificent Glenmore lake. Leaving the mountains at Lauragh we reach Direen Gardens, an other beautiful anf tranquil spot well worth a visit.
We travel back by the coast road through Kilmacalogue keeping the beautiful Kenmare Bay and the Iveragh peninsula to our left.We meet the main road again at Ardae where Rennuchini landed with aid to to support the rebellion of 1641. We return to Kenmare to enjoy it's renowned hospitality.
